HC senior Langston Jackson commits to UK

HC senior Langston Jackson is a widely known name at HC as he is captain of both the track and football teams. On Thursday January 10th, Jackson officially committed to the University of Kentucky for track and field with a full scholarship. With Jackson’s high GPA and incredible athletic ability, UK was not the only school to have interest in him.

“I [had offers] from Penn State, Texas, Houston, and Michigan,” Jackson said.

However, Jackson’s choice was clear and exactly what Langston was looking for.

“They gave me a full-ride scholarship,” Jackson said. “Their coach is also one of the best in the nation for sprints, so it was a no-brainer.”

Jackson made the choice of pursuing track and field offers over football even though schools showed interest for both sports. He believes track and field is the better sport for him.

“I had some interest in football from schools,” Jackson said, “but some coaches talked [to me] and some didn’t, meaning they kind of didn’t want me. In track I had a lot of coaches talk to me and really show interest.”

HC track and field coach Demetrius Gay has been coaching Jackson since he arrived at HC and sees his potential.

“He’ll do great things,” Gay said. “Coach Green [UK’s coach] has done great things at UK and Purdue… so it’ll be a good fit for Langston.”

Jackson is currently finishing his final semester at HC and will begin his time at UK during the fall semester later this year with high hopes for his future.

“My ultimate goal is to make it to the Olympics,” Jackson said.

The HC community will enjoy watching Jackson progress in the next level of track and field.
