Top 10 shows to watch on Netflix in September

Netflix has been one of the biggest streaming services since it came out. With hundreds of shows and movies to watch, it’s easy to see why it’s appealing. It has become a phenomenon among teenagers. With it’s easy accessibility, it makes it easy for anyone to use. 

1. The Office

The Office is the US adaptation set at a paper company in Scranton, PA. This show has loads of humor and is filmed as if it were a docu-series on Netflix. This show revolves around the workers inside the office. The main characters are Michael Scott (Steve Carell), Jim Halpert (John Karinsky), Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer), and Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson). This lighthearted cast brings laughter and fun to this Netflix show. This show began in 2005 and ran until 2013. There are nine seasons, each episode averages around 20 to 30 minutes, so it’s an easy and fun show to watch. 

2.  Friends

Friends has been around for 25 years. Starting in the early 90’s, this show brought many laughs and one-liners into the late 90’s and early 00’s. Even now this show is still a bit hit on Netflix. Based around a group of five friends, their main hang-out spots are a cafe called ‘Central Perk’ and an apartment building in New York. This show has created the basics of a classic ‘friend’ group. This show has 10 seasons, each episode averaging around 22-25 minutes long making this another easy binge.

3. Stranger Things

Stranger Things was brought to Netflix in the summer of 2016. This show is based in the 80’s, in a small town called Hawkins, Indiana. The show revolves around a group of four friends, one of them goes missing, and the other three are left wondering what happened to him. They soon stumble along a strange girl with a buzz cut and extraordinary abilities. With this show surrounding young teenagers, it has become one of the stapel shows teenagers watch. The show has three seasons, as of now, each episode averages around 50 minutes to an hour. While it’s longer than the other two shows (episode length wise), it is definitely worth the watch. With the plot twists and turns, you will want to watch this in one sitting.

4. Grey’ s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy is a classic when it comes to ‘hospital dramas’. With it going on 15 seasons, it is quite the time consumer. However, there are loveable characters and a light-hearted feeling for most of the episodes. Now, with this being a drama, there are heart-breaking moments scattered throughout the series. It follows the story of pre-med doctors that are put through daunting emotional and physical tasks. It mainly follows Dr. Meredith Grey. With all of the emotion, drama, and love for the characters you have, the hour long episodes seem to fly by. 

5. Breaking Bad

Breaking bad takes on the journey of two people. One a chemistry teacher, one a student. The teacher finds out some devastating news and needs to find money fast. In order to do this, he teams up with his student to sell methamphetamine. The show follows them on their adventure of crime, a meth business, and teamwork. Each episode is about 30 to 45 minutes with five seasons, it’s a worthwhile binge for summer or spring break.

6. The Good Place

The Good Place follows the journey of a woman who was originally supposed to go to ‘the bad place’ or hell. She winds up in the Good Place  by mistake. She hides in plain sight from the Good Place’s architect and his all-knowing assistant. With the help of her friends and a few enemies, she’s determined to shed the skin of her old life and start a brand new one, even if it is in the after-life. The show has four seasons and each episode averages to 30 to 40 minutes.

7. The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries, originally based off of a book series, revolves around two brothers who are vampires in a town that used to be infested by them. It’s about 100 years after they got turned and they return to Mystic Falls. When they do return, one falls for a teenage girl who has had a sad past. Throughout the series, they go through several trials and obstacles such as an old romance coming back from the past. Overall, with eight seasons and each episode ranges about 40-45 minutes long, making this a lengthy but worthwhile binge.

8. American Horror Story

American Horror Story is for anyone who enjoys thrillers. The seasons each revolve around a different story and a different fear. For example, one season revolved around clowns, something that has scared people for years. While each season is a different story, they range from 10 to 11 episodes each being 37 to 73 minutes depending on the episode. This makes this show easy to watch because you can start watching whichever season appeals most to you.

9. Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl is another classic teenage drama. This story revolves around a group of teenagers. They all go to the same boarding school but live on different parts of town. The show is narrated through the view of a gossip blog, each episode ends with ‘xoxo, Gossip Girl’ as if it were a letter. Throughout the series you see this group of people come together and push apart but also find themselves. The episodes range to be about 39 to 45 minutes and there are six seasons, giving you time to get to know the characters and storyline during your binge.

10. Jane the Virgin

Jane the Virgin is yet another teen classic. It revolves around a woman named Jane, who is a virgin, she mysteriously gets pregnant when a procedure was incorrectly done. From here we see how she deals with being pregnant with someone else’s child. We see her fall in and out of relationships all because of the baby. There are several twists and turns making this show a worthy binge.
